I.I.B.D – Indian Infusion Belly Dance with Jaydee Amrita
Indian Classical Temple dances are the oldest codified dance styles in the world.
When skilfully fused with belly dance we find a heavenly marriage of styles that fit like a jigsaw.
With the precise geometric shapes and lines we harness in Indian Classical dances
we perfectly frame the selective play of muscles around the spine axis found in belly dance.
With these concepts in mind, Jaydee Amrita has been developing a fusion format and
vocabulary called the I.I.B.D format (Indian Infusion Belly Dance) to share the joy of experiencing one’s own body
in this way.
In this workshop she introduces us to some basics of I.I.B.D combinations
appropriate to an entry level, including technique breakdown and basic concepts from Classical Indian Temple
Taking the technique which drives movements into the subtle layers of gesture and
feeling, we learn how to animate a movement to bring it to life from its technique based beginnings.
Until we insert meaning into movements, they are robotic and empty
Temple Dance inspires us to fill our vessels, the body, with life and meaning.
Every nuance, every glance of the eyes and hand gesture, when driven from a place of conscious intent becomes
filled with purpose, and powerful to experience, both for the dancer and for the audience.
We explore some of the Hasta Mudras (hand positions) with a few of their
applications in dance, and Jaydee shares a short 2 minute choreography demonstrating how to story weave into our
dances, giving a tasteful insight into some of the gestures used and the emotions placed in them.
